The 2019 West Visayas State University Hinampang Men’s basketball gave WVSU fans a treat after a slugfest for a semifinals berth.
Defending champion College of Agriculture and Forestry squad was dethroned by the boys of WVSU Main campus, 85-80, in one of the most memorable games of the Hinampang.
Both squads started hot and eager to score in every possession, making it a tight battle in the paint.
The hoopers from the main campus began to orchestrate consistently as they engineered a 10-0 run that forced CAF’s coach to call for timeout and cool things down.
CAF cheerers erupted after their squad made a run of their own and created defensive stops that involved high leaping blocks and nifty steals in the half-court. Their hard work was not wasted as they grabbed the lead
Both teams settled for half-court sets in the final canto and both cashed in baskets from their executions until CAF lost a bit of grip in the game by committing crucial turnovers that led to a couple of baskets from WVSU main.
However, CAF’s aggressiveness and full-court pressure led them to tying the game at 72 that sent the game into overtime.
Undeterred, WVSU main showed poise and composure during the overtime period, sinking baskets from well-drawn executions and protected the ball more than the CAF squad.
