BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here reported a 53.06 percent decrease in crime incidents during the observance of Holy Week in 2022 compared to last year.
Based on data provided by Nocppo, 26 incidents were recorded in 2021 covering the period of March 28 to April 3, while 23 incidents were recorded this year from April 10 to 16.
Index crimes or crimes against person or property also dropped by 11.11 percent with one incident recorded this year compared to nine incidents last year.
Under the index crimes were the eight focus crimes which included murder with two incidents, three homicide cases, one physical injury, and one rape.
No robbery, theft, carnapping, and motornapping incidents were recorded this year.
The average monthly crime rate also reduced by 40.28 percent or 1.05 from 2.603 in 2021 to 1.554 the following year.
Meanwhile, two police stations in the province received an award yesterday for garnering the highest rating in the Unit Performance Evaluation Rating (UPER) in January and February this year.
The awardees were Bago City Police Station led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong and Valladolid Municipal Police Station led by Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr.
The provincial police headquarters led by Police Colonel Leo Pamittan also garnered the highest rating of 94.43 in UPER in Western Visayas for the month of March based on the evaluation of Police Regional Office-6.
