Angelie Marie B. Perillo, an Ilongga jin training under the Alan Diasnes gym supervised and mentored by coach Flora Navales, will be the first from Western Visayas to join the first Online Daedo Open European Poomsae Championships.

The competition’s live streaming will start today until May 10, 2020, through masTaekwondo.com Official Facebook account.

Part of the varsity team of the Colegio De San Jose taekwondo squad from Elementary to Grade 7, Perillo had to continue her journey in New Zealand after moving in there with her family.

Perillo is currently the 77th ranked Female Cadet Blackbelts out of 111 and is the 2018 Palarong Pambansa gold medalist and Most Valuable Player.

Also, Perillo is the 2018 International Taekwondo Festival Poomsae gold medalist held in Los Angeles, California.

Summing up her prestigious accolades is being the gold medalist for both Poomsae and Kyorugi during the 2019 Budo South Open Taekwondo Championships while clinching the Best Female Player award.

Meanwhile, coach Navales, Perillo’s head trainer, is a former member of the CPU Taekwondo Varsity team under Diasnes’ supervision then started to coach right away which created the bridge between her and Perillo as one of her first students.

Coach Navales is a former member of the Philippine National Poomsae team’s training pool last 2016, 2018, and 2019 and represented the Philippines with the national team during the Korea World Hanmadang 2019 where they won the silver medal in Team Creative Poomsae.

To cap off coach Navales’ achievements, she was awarded as one of the Most Outstanding Women in Iloilo, Sports Category last 2018.

“For the Ilonggo athletes, it is a time for them to look at this situation in a positive way, treat this as an opportunity to grow and show their competitiveness through self-training and preparing themselves because I believe that if we all stay productive we will be ready for whatever challenges lie ahead of us. In this social media era, use it as a way that you can benefit from, explore,” coach Navales said in an exclusive interview with Daily Guardian.
