RULES of Survival’s flagship tournament, Top Clans, mounted an US$8,000 prize pool for its third season, with Philippine squads bagging US$7600.
And the second placer is a clan from Iloilo, Philippines!
Forty squads from Southeast Asia competed from July 19 to 21, 2019. Shadow Clan Gaming (SCG) was one of the squads invited to the tournament.
The all-Ilonggo squad wasn’t exactly the favorite to win the tournament. They had inconsistent performance in their group after finishing fifth overall in the elimination phase.
But they improved in the finals.
“We were surprised! They didn’t play like that before,” Top Clan S3 champion, Jabber “savage” Cabugatan said.
SCG tagged Wheat Town Gang’s last member in the final moments of Round 3 to earn enough points for a place win.
But who knew a bunch of 17-year olds would win it all?
ADJUSTED FOR SIZE
Maniac, the overall champion squad, is just made-up of minors.
They only finished seventh in their group going to the finals, behind Wheat Town Gang (WTG) who finished second. It was a different story in the finals.
“Marami kaming binago sa laro namin,” says Jabber “savage” Cabugatan. “Nag-play safe talaga kami. Gumigitna agad kami. Nag-kakamp po agad.”
Maniac finished 4-man strong in the first round. They were the only squad inside the circle by the second. That and their combined kills was enough to be the season 3 champs.
HUMBLE THROUGH AND THROUGH
A year ago, members of Maniac were just strangers playing in the same cafe. Now, they’ll be dividing the PHP150,000 cash prize.
They’ll be using half of their prize to buy or upgrade their PCs. The other half, they’ll give to their parents.
“Pamili nila ng stock namin sa paninda namin,” Jabber remarked.
Young talent is known to rise from action games, especially with the amount of galawan you’d need. But wisdom is what separates the victors from the rest.
Rules of Survival Top Clans Season 4 is set to return in the next quarter. #FightAsOne, survivors!
