BACOLOD City – An Indian national drowned in Malugo River at Barangay Alicante, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental on June 12, 2019.

Police identified the fatality as Ranjodh Singh, 24, of Barangay 7, Victorias City.

Captain Jaynick Bermudez, E. B. Magalona town police chief, said Singh failed to go home on Tuesday, prompting his family to file a missing person report with the police on Wednesday.

He was later found floating on the river at around 12:30 p.m. that day. Authorities said no suspicious injuries were noticed in his body.

An uncle identified Singh after he was fished out of the river.

Bermudez said Singh had been drinking for several days due to bankruptcy.

“He may have been depressed because he failed in his business, Bermudez said citing Singh’s relatives.

Bermudez said Singh’s relatives believed that there was no foul play behind his death.

They also refused to subject Singh to an autopsy, he added.
