BACOLOD CITY – An intelligence officer of the Bago City Police Station died after falling into a canal while riding his motorcycle in Barangay Napoles, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
The victim was identified as Police Staff Sgt. Hero John Trayco, 36, a resident of the same barangay.
Trayco was assigned as an intelligence operative and was conducting covert operations late Sunday night with a colleague.
Police Maj. Emman Anacleto, deputy chief of the Bago City Police Station, said Trayco told his colleague he was feeling unwell.
He decided to go home past midnight after completing his duty.
While heading home, Trayco reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.
Anacleto said they are unsure of the victim’s medical history but speculated that he may have suffered from hypertension.
He added that extreme heat may have contributed to the victim’s condition.
Trayco was found lying face down in a canal by a barangay watchman early Monday morning.
He was wearing a helmet but sustained fatal head injuries due to the impact.
Anacleto said there were no signs of foul play, and the victim’s family believes the incident was an accident.
Trayco’s service firearm and personal belongings were found intact at the scene.
