Investment conference for city’s slaughterhouse project today

The Iloilo City government will conduct an investment conference today, Dec 1, 2021 in preparation for the upgrade of the slaughterhouse under a public-private partnership scheme, The investment conference will be done online and headed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Velma Lao, the head of the City Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (LEIPO), will moderate the event.

The conference will feature officials from the public and private sector such as Ferdinand Pecson, executive director of the PPP Center; United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deliver Project’s Chief of Party Dr. Greg Robbins; Ernesto Borromeo Jr., chairman of the Iloilo City Investment Incentives Board; Engr. Terrence Uygongco, chairman of the Iloilo Local Economic Development Foundation Inc. (ILED), among others.

The conference aims to entice investors to the P139.35-million slaughterhouse upgrade project.

Recently, the city government conducted a public consultation to discuss the conceptual design and technical aspects of the infrastructure project.

The Iloilo City Slaughterhouse project aims to capacitate the existing slaughterhouse and increase its animal head production by improving the facilities.

Through the project, the city hopes to secure the Double-A accreditation from the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) which will ensure that the meat coming from the slaughterhouse will be safe and reliable.

The project mulls a joint venture between the Iloilo City government and a private sector partner.

The private sector will design, finance, construct and operate and maintain the project, within a 25-year concession period.

Once completed, the project will be the first NMIS-accredited slaughterhouse in Iloilo. (ERS)
