All three contestants of the Iloilo Science and Technology University bagged the top three places of the 26th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ)-Provincial Elimination held on November 9, 2022 at Days Hotel by Wyndam in Iloilo City.
The Philippine Statistics Authority-Iloilo Provincial Statistical Office (PSA-IPSO) led the quiz bee.
The 26th PSQ is an annual competition designed for college freshmen enrolled in any private or public college or university in the Philippines which will assess the competency and skills of students in statistics as acquired from the secondary education curriculum.
The 26th PSQ-Iloilo Provincial Elimination pitted 23 freshmen students from 9 colleges and universities in Iloilo – Central Philippine University (CPU), Colegio de San Jose (CSJ), Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U), Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF), John B Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU), University of Iloilo-PHINMA (UI-PHINMA), University of San Agustin (USA), University of the Philippines-Visayas (UPV), and West Visayas State University (WVSU).
The judges during the contest were Engr. Rex Casiple, Ph.D, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED-6 as chief judge; Ma. Goretti Novilla, Supervising Statistical Specialist of PSA RSSO 6; and Rashley David de Juan, Economic Development Specialist I from NEDA-6.
The quiz bee is composed of two rounds with 20 questions. Each question was given one point, and the participant with the highest total score was declared winner.
Sebastian Antoniel C. Esmalla, a BS Electric Engineering student of ISAT-U got first place while Al Zedrick B. Mambaret and Fritzgeral T. Reginio, BS Civil Engineering students, also from ISAT-U, landed on the second and third places, respectively.
They received medals, certificates, tokens and cash prizes. Their coach, Ms. Lavinia Barredo Dulla, was grateful and proud that all three students coming from their university secured the top 3 places in the provincial elimination and will represent Iloilo in the Regional Championship on November 14, 2022 to be held at RDC Hall Neda RO 6.
