Shanghai, China – Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) marked a historic milestone at the 22nd Conference on International Exchange of Professionals (CIEP) on November 2, debuting with two distinguished faculty members at one of China’s premier international professional gatherings. The event featured over 1,000 scholars and experts from nearly 100 countries.
Hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, the conference brought together global talent for discussions on science, technology, and professional skills development. Keynote speakers included a Nobel laureate and a Turing Prize winner, along with national government officials.
Representing ISUFST were Dr. Matthew Lasap, Dean of the College of Education at Tiwi Site, and Prof. Wenda Panes from the College of Information and Technology, San Enrique Campus. They presented their innovative research at Zhejiang Normal University, focusing on international relations and sustainability, as well as STEM and AI in education.
“This is an incredible opportunity for ISUFST to not only showcase our expertise but to build valuable connections across the world,” said Prof. Panes. Her presentation, titled Technology and Knowledge Transfer of AICS-IMS: Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation Information Management System, highlighted the crucial role of technology in crisis management. She also introduced several digital programs for extension projects she leads at ISUFST, which are being used by various local government units in Iloilo.
Dr. Lasap presented his research, A Multi-Dimensional Inquiry Towards the Development of a Design and Technology Performance Task-Based Instruction, emphasizing its impact on future educational methods in technology and design. “This conference is a testament to our university’s commitment to global engagement and academic leadership,” he said. “Representing ISUFST at CIEP is an honor and a powerful opportunity to connect with professionals worldwide.”
He also shared his research titled Inquiry into the Elements of Authentic Activities that Build Cognitive Thinking Skills in Mathematics: A Grounded Theory and Performance Tasks Towards the Development of Cognitive Thinking Skills for Understanding in Mathematics: A Grounded Theory.
On November 4, ISUFST delegates joined experts from the U.S., Malaysia, and the Philippines at the Joint Education Institute of Zhejiang Normal University and Kansas University in Jinhua. This visit fostered discussions on potential cross-border collaborative projects, underscoring ISUFST’s growing involvement in international educational partnerships.
