ONE Championship’s next big thing just arrived.
Filipina MMA sensation Jenelyn Olsim introduced her name in the ONE fighting scene after scoring a huge upset over strawweight rank no. 5 Maira Mazar via third-round submission.
Everyone was hyped up during the ONE: Fists of Fury III in Singapore as the prized Filipina fighter surpassed all the expectations and pounced on Mazar from start to finish.
Despite Mazar’s impressive grappling game, the clever approach of Olsim during the crucial situations enabled her to counter quickly and at the same time strike with efficiency.
The no. five-ranked strawweight haunted the Filipina from the get-go but Olsim negated the opposition’s aggression after letting her feel her power in the standup game.
During the third round, Mazar was perfect in executing her takedown against Olsim and scored the early ring control.
However, Olsim attempted to disrupt Mazar’s rhythm by locking up a D’arce choke attempt despite being under.
Thinking quickly, Olsim did a courageous push-off, rolled in a split second to finally have the grip suitable for the D’arce forcing Mazar to tap out.
With the win, the newest Filipina gem improved her record to 4-2 while the ONE veteran Mazar dropped to 7-4.
