BACOLOD City – The families of the 17 livestock buyers involved in a tragic accident in Mabinay, Negros Oriental, last Wednesday, will receive financial assistance.

In a statement posted on Facebook last Thursday, Limkaichong expressed shock and devastation over the accident that occurred at Sitio Tubod, Barangay Bulwang on February 21, which resulted in 15 fatalities and injured two others.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and friends of the 15 individuals who tragically lost their lives in the accident. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time, and I share in your mourning of their untimely passing. May they rest in peace,” the congresswoman stated.
Limkaichong mentioned that the loss of the 15 individuals from La Libertad town represents not only a personal tragedy but also a profound loss for the entire first district of the province.
She added that her office has already provided assistance to the victims who remain hospitalized.
The congresswoman also commended the local governments of Mabinay and La Libertad for their prompt response to the accident and expressed her sincere appreciation for their efforts.
“I urge all Negrosanons to pray for the eternal repose of the souls of the victims and for their families who are grappling with the grief and pain of their loss,” she said.
Police Lieutenant Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office (Norppo), reported that the two injured victims, Antonio Toreno and Jovanni Flores, are now stable in the hospital.
Toreno was driving a truck en route to Bayawan City to purchase hogs when he lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure and plunged into a cliff while navigating a curve on a descending road.
Fourteen individuals died at the scene after being pinned under the vehicle or thrown from it, while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital, hours after the Wednesday accident.
Meanwhile, Governor Manuel Sagarbarria also extended his heartfelt condolences to all the families affected by the tragic accident.
In a statement posted on the provincial government’s Facebook page, Sagarbarria said they are prepared to provide any necessary assistance to help alleviate the suffering caused by this tragedy.
He affirmed that the provincial government stands as a pillar of support and compassion in times of need.
