A prominent Ilonggo in the fields of public service, business, and civic service passed away Friday morning.
Lorenzo “Larry” Jamora, 73, succumbed to a lingering illness at their home past 2 am, his brother Andy told Daily Guardian.
Jamora held various public positions, particularly in the water industry.
He was a member of the National Water Resources Board, Task Force on Water Resources Management, and Inter-Agency Committee on Water Crisis Management.
He was also a past president of the Philippine Waterworks Association and vice chairman of the Metro Iloilo Water District board (1998-2001).
In 2001, he was appointed administrator of the Local Water Utilities Administration and served until 2006.
He was also administrator of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in 2007 to 2008.
He also held the position of Presidential Assistant on Water before running for Iloilo City mayor in 2010.
Jamora was born on May 27, 1947 in Iloilo City and finished his primary and secondary Education at the then Lincoln College in Iloilo City.
He earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1967 from the De la Salle University (Manila).
Jamora was also a member of the Rotary Club of Iloilo.
BIZ CLUB MOURNS
The Iloilo Business Club also mourned Jamora’s passing.
The group described Jamora as a dedicated public servant and business leader.
“We grieve the loss of a business leader in Iloilo. He was a dedicated public servant; a hardworking, generous businessman; a God-fearing family man with an extraordinary heart for people around him. He is an advocate of change, and a vocal champion of issues affecting the community.”
