BACOLOD City – Two fishermen discovered a loggerhead sea turtle trapped in their fishing net at the waters of Barangay Tabao Proper in Valladolid, Negros Occidental early Wednesday.

Police Captain Joseth Catonina, town police chief, said Ronie Ganancial and Julio Toremoro went fishing around 1 a.m. yesterday when they discovered the trapped sea turtle.

Catonina said the turtle is three feet wide and 38 inches long. It weighs 65 kilos.

“It probably got lost when it was searching for food, because that kind of turtle can be found on the waters of Hawaii,” he added.

The residents reported it to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro), Bantay Dagat, Valladolid Municipal Police Station, and the local government for proper disposition.

Catonina said it has no injuries, and was released safely back to the waters.
