BACOLOD City – A man died while his brother was injured in a hacking incident at Barangay Tan-awan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last Saturday due to land dispute.

Police identified the fatality as Jerry Mallorca Sr., 48, while his brother Michale, 45, was wounded.

Police Lieutenant Joemel Salarda, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said Michael and his nephew Francisco Mallorca, 20 were talking when Jerry arrived.

A heated argument then ensued between Jerry and Michael, Salarda said.

While they were arguing, the two sons of Jerry arrived with one of them armed with a bolo.

Salarda said that Jerry and his sons then chased Michael, prompting Francisco to also get a bolo to defend his uncle.

However, one of Jerry’s sons allegedly hacked Michael on his back, while Francisco reportedly hit Jerry’s head.

Salarda said Jerry and Michael were taken to a hospital, where Jerry was declared dead on arrival.

Salarda said the suspects involved in the crime are still at large.

“During that time, naglab-utanay gid sila siguro, kay wala man sila record sa police sang ilinaway dati,” he added.
