BACOLOD City – Four unidentified suspects waylaid another man on a jeep while passing a bridge at Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Sunday.
Slain was John Paul Sola, 38, an overseer of their family-owned hacienda. He was a grandson of former Kabankalan City mayor Pablo Sola.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Jonel Guadalupe, city police chief, said Sola was driving an owner-type jeepney on his way home when the assailants ambushed him at the bridge.
Sola succumbed to four gunshot wounds on the head, neck, and back.
Police recovered from the scene four fired cartridges of .45-caliber ammunition and a bullet believed to be from a .9mm-caliber gun.
Guadalupe said it’s possible that the perpetrators followed the victim’s routine.
He said they are looking into land conflict and insurgency as possible angles behind the killing.
The city police chief said that unidentified armed men previously attacked the hacienda and burned a hut there.
Guadalupe said they already have persons of interest but he cannot reveal their identities for now.
