BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia of this city called for a meeting with all the barangay captains in line with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to clear all roads of illegal structures and obstructions

The meeting will happen on August 1, 2019 at the Bacolod City Government Center.

Leonardia asked all punong barangays to attend the meeting held at the MassKara Halls 1 and 2 starting 1 p.m.

In his 4th State of the Nation Address on July 22, Duterte ordered authorities to reclaim public roads that are being used for private ends.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) formalized Duterte’s order today [July 29] as Secretary Eduardo Año issued Memorandum Circular No. 2019-121 to all LGUs including local sanggunians.

In his directive to all PBs, Leonardia said the meeting shall tackle ways to immediately comply with the President’s directive and the DILG memorandum circular.

“Within 60 calendar days, significant results must be achieved, documented and reported together with the efforts of the LGUs to sustain the same,” the DILG memorandum said.

The DILG warned that in case of non-compliance, appropriate administrative cases shall be filed pursuant to Section 60 (c) of the Local Government Code of 1991 and other existing laws and policies.

It must also be the responsibility of all local chief executives to exact accountability and impose corresponding sanctions, after observance of due process, against non-supportive and/or non-compliant local officials and employees, the DILG added.
