Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao has clarified the status of the Tabang Antique surgical mission amidst concerns and rumors of its cancellation.
With a firm commitment to public health and welfare, Gov. Cadiao has confirmed that the medical mission is not canceled but is undergoing a meticulous review process to ensure that the Antique Medical Mission, Inc. (AMMI) and the Provincial Government are fully aligned on the operational details.
“Matuloy dya ang request nga dya,” Gov. Cadiao said in a press release.
“Sin-o tana nga governor ang hindi bay gusto hay tanan nga medical mission gina welcome gid naton dya sa Antique,” she added, reinforcing her support for such initiatives that bring essential healthcare services to the Antiqueños.
The original plan, which included signing a Deed of Usufruct granting AMMI access to the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital’s (ASMGH) facilities and equipment, has been paused.
Cadiao intends to iron out specifics such as the utilization of hospital facilities, the involvement of ASMGH personnel, and the provision of necessary medical supplies, notably anesthesia which is crucial and costly for the planned five-day surgical event.
Cadiao expressed financial prudence regarding the medical supplies particularly anesthesia for the 5-day surgical activity. She said it would take time to replenish the used anesthesia because of strict government procurement rules.
Moreover, the governor highlighted the need for clear accountability measures for any damages to medical equipment and for postoperative care, particularly for complications that might not be covered by PhilHealth.
This prudent foresight is aimed at protecting both the medical providers and the recipients of the surgical mission.
To address these concerns and to forge a stronger partnership, discussions are in progress between Gov. Cadiao and AMMI Executive Director and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member, Dr. Egidio P. Elio, to draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would supersede the Deed of Usufruct.
Gov. Cadiao remained optimistic about the collaboration: “It’s just a matter of communication between the SP and the governor. Matuloy dya ang request nga dya (This request will push through).”
