A man believed to be suffering from nervous breakdown allegedly attacked his cousin with a knife evening of September 22 in Calinog, Iloilo.

The incident happened while the suspect, 27-year-old Jeffrey Libuna, was having dinner with his cousin Arvin Libuna, 22.

Jeffrey had been staying with Arvin’s family in Barangay Libot, Calibog, so he can drive his pedicab for livelihood.

Staff Sergeant Vincent Gascon, Calinog police investigator, said that there was no reason or cause that led to the knife attack.

Jeffrey suddenly stabbed his cousin with a knife.

Arvin suffered wounds on his body and left arm. He was rushed to Calinog District Hospital and is expected to survive.

Responding policemen subsequently arrested Jeffrey and seized a 7-inch knife from his possession.

Gascon said the suspect appeared to be hallucinating when the incident happened.

He told police investigators that someone has been whispering to him to stab his cousin.

Jeffrey claimed he came back to his senses after seeing blood oozing from Arvin’s body.

It was gathered that Arvin’s family might not pursue criminal charges against the suspect.

Jeffrey’s family has also assured that they would let him undergo psychiatric treatment.
