Mid-year labor force survey in Guimaras exceeds target

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office has exceeded its target for the June 2024 Round Labor Force Survey (LFS), achieving 110.20% of its provincial goal of 49 sample households.

“The Hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) of PSA-Guimaras enumerated 53 sample households for the LFS, which started on June 8 and concluded on June 22,” said Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare.

The pre-identified sample households were spread across three Enumeration Areas (EAs) in three barangays within the municipalities of Buenavista and Sibunag.

Specifically, 39 households were in Buenavista and 10 in Sibunag.

In Buenavista, the sample households were located in Barangays Mclain (15 households) and Zaldivar (24 households), while in Sibunag, all 10 sample households were in Barangay Ayangan.

The additional five households, which included three respondents from Barangay Zaldivar and two from Barangay Mclain, were considered replacements due to issues such as permanent relocation, vacant housing, or the death of a single occupant.

“Replacement also applied when the addressee could not be located or a single person occupying the housing unit had passed away,” Losare added.

The LFS is a crucial household survey that assesses the country’s current labor market. It is instrumental in calculating both national and provincial employment and unemployment rates.

“It aims to provide a quantitative framework for plans and policy formulation affecting the labor market,” Losare explained.

The survey collects data on labor and employment and gathers demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the labor force.

“This survey is essential for the labor welfare of every Filipino, as well as for the operation of a market-based economy,” Losare emphasized.

Losare also expressed gratitude to the sample households for their cooperation and assured them that all data provided will be kept confidential.

“The data will be used solely as a reference for the levels and trends of employment, unemployment, and underemployment in the province. All information gathered is kept strictly confidential and will not be used for taxation, investigation, or regulation as provided under Article 55 of Republic Act 10625,” Losare clarified.
