Francisco Q. Maravilla, the first chairman of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) board of directors, peacefully passed away on June 1, 2021, at the age of 95.
Mr. Maravilla was at the forefront of the Metro Iloilo Water District’s inception and transition from the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) back in 1978. He served in its first Board of Directors as the first Chairman and laid down important policies that will serve as the water district’s foundation for decades to come.
The first MIWD Board who served alongside Mr. Maravilla were Ms. Nelly Aquino, Engr. Ricardo T. Salas, Dr. Jose Edurese and Mr. Porfiro Marquillero with Atty Felix Bacabac serving as the water district’s first legal counsel.
The MIWD Management and the current members of the Board bestowed a posthumous award to Mr. Maravilla for his vital contributions to the water district.
Continuing the good works of her father, the current MIWD chairperson, Ms. Rebecca Maravilla, will accept the award on behalf of Mr. Maravilla.
And just like her father before her, Ms. Maravilla’s appointment came at an opportune time as the water district is once again in the middle of another historic turning point – the transitioning between the old MIWD structure towards the Joint-Venture led partnerships between MIWD and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.
Ms. Maravilla said she will continue her father’s legacy by making invaluable changes for the water security of Iloilo City.
