Most COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic

More than 80 percent of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Western Visayas are asymptomatic, according to the latest bulletin issued on July 10, 2020 by the Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Western Visayas (DOH-CHD-6).

Out of the current 455 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Friday, 392 or 86 percent are asymptomatic.

Cases showing symptoms of Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) are both accounted for seven percent (30 SARI cases and 33 ILI cases).

The DOH-CHD-6 reported 28 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, 26 of them Locally-Stranded Individuals (LSI):

– 21-year-old male from Binalbagan, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 428);

– 39-year-old male from Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 429);

– 20-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 430);

– 55-year old female from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 431);

– 12-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 432);

– 16-year-old male from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 433);

– 18-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 434);

– six-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 435);

– 1-year-old female from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 436);

– 25-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 437);

– 26-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 438);

– 55-year-old male from La Castellana, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 439);

– 36-year-old male from New Lucena, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 441);

One Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) was included in the latest batch, a 39-year-old male from Concepcion, Iloilo (WV Patient No. 443).

Only one local case was reported, a 33-year-old female healthcare worker from Kabankalan, Negros Occidental (WV Patient No. 440) who was a close contact of WV Patient No. 409, also from the same province.

All new cases are currently under facility-based quarantine.

Four repeat tests also returned positive results for COVID-19 while 10 new COVID-19 recoveries were also reported.

A total of 1,243 RT-PCR tests were released on July 10, with 1,211 showing negative results, 64 from the newly accredited QualiMed Molecular Laboratory in Iloilo City.

DOH data indicated that as of July 10, Western Visayas has 455 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 275 active cases, 169 recoveries, and 11 deaths.
