BACOLOD CITY – Police are pursuing the driver of a sedan who fatally struck a 41-year-old motorcycle rider along the Bacolod Economic Highway in Barangay Granada on Palm Sunday.

The victim was identified as Abcil Castillo, a resident of the same village.

Police Lt. Col. Ramel Sarona, head of the Bacolod Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), said the victim was on his way home when he was hit by a car driven by an unidentified man at the intersection early that morning.

Sarona said the driver may have been speeding and failed to see the motorcycle due to poor lighting in the area.

The impact threw the victim into a nearby sugarcane field.

Despite wearing a helmet, Castillo died from severe head injuries, Sarona said.

Witnesses saw the driver briefly check on the victim before fleeing the scene.

Sarona added that investigators coordinated with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) after a license plate was recovered from the site.

However, the plate was traced to a repossessed vehicle, and the driver has yet to be identified.

Despite the setback, Sarona expressed optimism that they will eventually track down the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Bago City, two individuals died in separate road accidents in Barangays Dulao and Ma-ao on Saturday.
