Motorcycle rider killed in collision with SUV

BACOLOD City – A motorcycle rider died after colliding with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at Barangay Damgo, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last Friday.

Killed in the accident was Melvin Sibolano, 42, a native of Iloilo but was temporarily residing at his father’s residence in Barangay Alijis here.

Police Captain Eric Doronilla, town police chief, said a Toyota Revo driven by a 48-year-old resident of Barangay Mansilingan here, allegedly attempted to overtake and crashed into the motorcycle.

“Nag-agaw siya (Revo) lane, na sakam gid ang motor,” he added.

Doronilla said the SUV even swerved and ended up at the sugarcane field.

Sibolano was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Doronilla said the SUV driver was detained but was released the following day after the lapse of the reglementary detention.

Despite this, Doronilla said the family is pursuing charges against the SUV driver.
