The Gender and Development (GAD) Council of the Iloilo provincial government has taken the lead in commemorating this year’s National Women’s Month.

A variety of events have been planned to celebrate women’s achievements and to promote gender equality and inclusivity.

The celebration began with Women’s Symposium on Climate Change Resiliency, held at Casa Real de Iloilo, today, March 5.

This symposium is part of a larger initiative that includes several activities highlighting women’s contributions.

A key event will be the celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, which will be observed with a province-wide cleanup drive spearheaded by women.

From March 11 to 25, government offices at the Capitol will also be adorned with purple decorations to symbolize women’s empowerment.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr., and Vice Governor Christine Garin inaugurated a mini trade fair called “Tiendas Ilonggas” on March 4, at the Provincial Capitol’s lobby.

Continuing through March 8, Tiendas Ilonggas exhibits products from local women entrepreneurs, aiming to promote and support their enterprises.

The event is a collaborative effort of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions (LEDIP) Office, Women Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI).

The month-long celebration highlights the vital roles women play in societal development.
