Karl Anthony-Towns may be wearing a different jersey now but his offensive arsenal still stayed the same.
In a highly-anticipated matchup between two heavyweight teams in the Eastern Conference, it was the New York Knicks who emerged victorious over the Miami Heat, 116-107, behind Towns’ 44-point masterpiece in the ongoing NBA regular season on October 31, 2024.
After trailing by as much as 13 points in the game, the Knicks relied on the hot hands of their newly-acquired superstar center and didn’t disappoint as Towns embarrassed Miami’s signature defensive schemes with an efficient 17/25 shooting from the field.
Towns already had 24 markers in the first half which became the reason why they were able to stay within striking distance and avoid a 20-point hole heading into the final two quarters.
Fresh off a sub-par performance in the first half, New York rallied from double digits down and sucked the life out of Miami when they stole the lead after the third, 87-80.
The Knicks wrapped up the pivotal third frame with a momentum-clinching 30-10 run and turned a 70-57 deficit into a seven-point lead.
After that crucial stretch, the Heat never retook the advantage and could only watch Towns dominate in the shaded lane while throwing demoralizing three-pointers to record his best offensive outing since getting traded to the Knicks.
Towns had a perfect trip to the charity stripe, sinking all of his six attempts while capping off his splash party with only a single miss from downtown out of five tries.
This is his third consecutive double-double outing for the Knicks as he also pulled down 13 rebounds while assisting the ball twice in 38 minutes of playing time.
Aside from Towns’ scoring clinic, New York also hosted a balanced attack after receiving double-digit scoring from five other players.
Jalen Brunson backstopped Towns with 22 markers, nine assists, and two boards while Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby chipped in 17 and 11 points, respectively.
On the other hand, it was a disappointing performance for the Heat after letting their double-digit lead slip away. They cooled down in the second half, only tallying 49 points in the last two quarters after amassing 58 markers in the first two periods of the game.
Miami will aim to bounce back and re-enter the NBA winning column on November 3, 2024, while the Knicks look to pick up where they left off when they challenge the Detroit Pistons on November 2, 2024.
