BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson denied being part of any movement pushing either Vice-President Leni Robredo or presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in 2022.

Earlier, tarpaulins urging Sara Duterte-Carpio to run for president in the 2022 national elections have been displayed in prominent areas in this city and some areas in Negros Occidental province.

The “Run Sara Run” tarps appeared after the Negros Leni for President movement was launched by multi-sectoral organizations led by former Negros Occidental governor Rafael Coscolluela.

“I am not part of any of the two (groups),” Lacson said told reporters here.

The governor said he will just wait after they file their certificate of candidacy before making a choice.

Mayor Duterte in radio interviews said that she is grateful for those behind the “Run Sara Run” campaign.

But she said though that the 2022 presidential race is farthest from her mind as she is focused on addressing the health and economic problems brought about by the pandemic.

Lacson said that supporters of the presidential daughter can hang posters, “as long as they don’t put it in government property of the province”.

He added that if they place the posters at the Lagoon perimeter fence, “I will ask them to take it out.”

Meanwhile, Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson has openly admitted that he is among some Negros Occidental mayors urging Duterte-Carpio to run for president next year.

“Run Sara Run” posters were first seen posted in Himamaylan City.
