BACOLOD City – Police are trying to figure out who abandoned a newborn baby girl found lifeless in a dumpsite at Hacienda Daet, Barangay Concepcion, Talisay City, Negros Occidental last Friday.
Police Lieutenant Peter John Ramos, deputy police chief of Talisay City Police Station, said the baby still has her umbilical cord when discovered by a garbage collector.
The baby was wrapped in a cloth and was placed in a paper bag and a box tied with a straw, according to Ramos.
Ramos said they are trying to check if someone was able to see any suspicious person in the area, prior to the baby’s discovery.
Ramos said they didn’t know if the baby was left late Thursday evening or early Friday.
He said the baby was taken to Talisay City Health and was later turned over to the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development for burial.
Meanwhile, a man died after he was shot by an unidentified assailant at Sitio Indangawan, Barangay Manlucahoc, Sipalay City last Thursday.
Police identified the victim as Garry Lavilla, 32, of the said village.
Police Master Sergeant Robert Castro, investigator of Sipalay City Police Station, said the victim was having a drinking session with his relatives when the suspect called him to go out.
When the victim came out, the suspect allegedly shot him and fled along with two other unidentified companions, Castro said.
Castro said the victim succumbed to a lone gunshot wound in his left ear.
Castro said they have yet to determine the motive of the killing. “Wala man na siya record but every time daw mahubog siya gapakilala siya na intel ka babaw kag dalom,” he added.
Police are looking into grudges as possible angle in the incident.
Castro said they are also not discounting the possibility that it might be insurgency-related, considering that the area was identified as rebel-infested.
