BACOLOD City – An alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) wanted for murder was arrested in Barangay Calupaan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental last Wednesday.

The Army identified the suspect as Reagan Taub alias “Apyot” of Central Negros (CN) 1, who is the subject of an arrest warrant for the said crime with no bail.

Judge Mario Trinidad of Regional Trial Court Branch 64 in the city issued the warrant on January 21, 2019.

Taub was tagged as the primary suspect in the killing of Army Corporal Rex Deramas, then assistant deputy detachment commander of Candalanon Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) Patrol based at Barangay Kasingan, in 2018, according to the Army.

The suspect was also linked to the murder of four civilians at their respective houses in Barangay Trinidad in May this year, the Army said.

Authorities recovered from Taub a .45-caliber pistol and various documents.

His apprehension was led by the 62nd Infantry Battalion (IB), and Guihulngan City Police Station.

Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Flores, 62nd IB commander, said he appreciated the help of the residents that led to the arrest of Taub.
