Nurse succumbs to dengue

A NURSE employed by the local government of Numancia, Aklan died of dengue early morning of June 28. 2019.

Edniel Gamboa, a resident of Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan, was being treated for dengue when he died at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital (IDH) in Iloilo City.

According to reports, Gamboa, Numancia’s public health nurse, had been experiencing fever days before he decided to seek treatment.

He was allegedly looking after his sick mother prior to being hospitalized.

While confined at IDH’s intensive care unit as early as June 19, several friends asked help through social media for type A+ blood donors because of his critical condition.

Meanwhile, a report from RMN DYKR-Kalibo said that dengue cases in Aklan spiked to 82 percent.

According to Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr., Aklan’s Provincial Health Officer I, said that from January 1 to June 22, they recorded 14 deaths due to dengue, with Gamboa as the latest victim.

Kalibo town recorded the most number of dengue cases at 355; followed by Balete with 155; Banga, 130; New Washington, 121; and Numancia, 115.

The town of Altavas reported 69 dengue cases while Madalag recorded 11 cases.
