BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) here simultaneously shredded old (faded and worn out) police uniforms in a ceremonial disposal held at their respective police offices on Monday.

This is in line with the nationwide directive of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to instil discipline in their ranks by wearing new, clean, and neat uniforms.

Leading the ceremonial disposal of the old uniforms and caps of BCPO personnel yesterday were Police Colonel Henry Biñas, BCPO director, and Police Colonel Harold Tuzon, deputy regional director for operations of Police Regional Office (PRO)-6, in behalf of Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, PRO-6 regional director.

Biñas said the shredded uniforms will be forwarded to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) so that persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) can recycle the items into rags and later sell them.

“We will buy the rags from them so that we can help them with their livelihood,” he added.

Tuzon said the disposal was conducted to prevent policemen from wearing their old uniforms.

The PNP provides clothing allowance to officers so that they can buy new uniforms every three years.

“This is going back to the basics, this is part of our discipline,” he added.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Romeo Baleros, Nocppo director, led the same ceremony yesterday, and buried the old uniforms of Nocppo personnel.

He said personnel in each police station in the province also conducted the same activity.

Ang uniporme kasi ang nagdadala ng dignified appearance and behavior natin. Kaya dapat huwag na nilang ipilit na suotin pa ang luma,” he said.
