One dead, eight injured in stabbing, hacking

BACOLOD City – A man died while eight others, including a barangay official, were wounded in separate stabbing and hacking incidents in Negros Occidental from Dec 31, 2021 to Jan 1, 2022.

In Kabankalan City, Bernardo Gustilo, 54, of Barangay Hilamonan, died from stabbing, while Arnold Sangalang, 21, of Barangay Linao; and a minor were injured in Barangay Hilamonan on New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, Barangay Kagawad Jupiter Decenal, 46, of Barangay Camingawan was wounded after he was hacked when he responded to a commotion in the said village on December 31.

Also wounded was Nicolas Abrasaldo, 56, of the said village.

According to the police, Nicolas and Jomarie Cordilla were having a drinking session at the house of Maciano Abrasaldo when the guitar owned by Maciano accidentally dropped which angered Cordilla.

Cordilla then allegedly took a bolo and hit Nicolas’s head several times.

The suspect was arrested and turned over to the Kabankalan City Police Station.

Meanwhile, four persons were also wounded in stabbing incidents in Manapla town, and the cities of Talisay and San Carlos last Saturday.
