One hurt, six others nabbed for illegal cockfighting

BACOLOD City – A man was injured while six others were arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal cockfighting in two villages of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental last week.

In Barangay Tampalon, Gemar Lazarito, 24, of the said village, was wounded after he was allegedly shot by a police officer when he purportedly attempted to grab the cop’s firearm.

Lazarito and five others were caught in the middle of a cockfight at the said village last Friday.

The policeman was also hurt during the commotion.

Five others were arrested – Ricky Semillon, 34, Jhondy Semillon, 28, and Arthus Restar, 34, all residents of Barangay Tapi; Rommy Cabison, 48, and

Raymund Cantero, 31, both of Barangay Tampalon.

Semillon and Cabison are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), a report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) said.

Police recovered from the suspects 11 fighting cocks and a steel gaff.

On Saturday, Raphy Jauod, 51, of Barangay Camingawan, a beneficiary of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) was arrested at Barangay Camansi for holding an illegal cockfight.

Several unidentified individuals escaped when they sensed the presence of police in the area.
