One killed, three hurt in separate road mishaps

AN ELDERLY man was killed while three others were wounded in separate road accidents in Iloilo on April 30, 2019.

Pedro Cervantes, 61, of Palmares Street, Passi City was killed after the owner-type jeepney he was driving overshot the road and crashed into a sugarcane plantation.

The incident happened around 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at Barangay Jaguimitan, Passi City.

His passenger, 27-year-old Anthony Santos, a resident of Barangay Imbang, Passi City, survived.

Cervantes was allegedly navigating a road curve when he lost control of the wheel.

Barangay officials brought the victims to Don Valerio Palmares Memorial Hospital in Passi City but Cervantes succumbed to head injuries.

Meanwhile, two persons were injured in another vehicular incident at Barangay Pakiad, Oton around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The victims were identified as Lyen Mark Rivera of Leganes, Iloilo and Jaylord Gomia of Molo, Iloilo City.

Rivera sustained injuries on both legs while Gomia sustained abrasions.

The two allegedly came from a drinking spree in Barangay Pakiad, Oton and were tracking the way going to Barangay Calajunan, Mandurriao, Iloilo City when the incident happened.

Meanwhile, three persons were physically unscathed after their vehicle rammed into the center island of the national highway at Barangay Dungon-A, Jaro, Iloilo City.

The driver claimed that he tried to evade from colliding with a motorcycle that encroached his lane.
