BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has allocated P23 million for the renovation of the Bacolod City Public Plaza.
He said the renovation is ongoing and may take a year to complete after it was delayed to give way to the MassKara Festival in October 2019.
He said the plaza will be MassKara-resilient amid clamors of some people that it should not be used during the festival.
“But this was my campaign promise in 2004,” he added.
Leonardia recalled that the MassKara Festival was transferred to another venue by a previous administration.
And as part of his campaign in 2004, he promised that if he were given a chance, he will return the MassKara to the plaza.
He further said that the renovation will include the black and white tiles, lighting facilities, the whole walkway, among others.
Leonardia also said that he will sit down with the contractor and ask them to prioritize the black and white tiles.
He further said that last time the tiles were improved was during his first term.
The DBM had requested to be informed if the project was already finished.
Leonardia also assured that the trees in the plaza will be preserved.
