ROXAS CITY, Capiz –A former governor now mayor of Pontevedra, Capiz does not believe that each town should receive P5 million to fund their pet projects.

Mayor Esteban “Dodoy” Contreras was reacting to the statement of Mambusao Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr. that Gov. Esteban Evan “Nonoy” Contreras should give P5 million to each town in order to gain support for his administration by creating livelihood opportunities.

“As far as l am concerned, l did not recall that a provincial chief executive allocated the same amount to every town,” Mayor Contreras said, adding that the funding depends on the need of the town or barangay and discretion of the governor.

Labao issued the statement on the P5-million funding to every town during his oathtaking as president of the League of the Municipalities of the Philippines(LMP)-Capiz chapter.

Labao also threatened to run for governor in the next election if the incumbent governor ignores his request.

Mayor Contreras, father of the sitting governor, said asking financial help from the province is not a problem but it is always based on the priority and sincerity on the part of the one asking for money.

Once it will be given, he said, what will happen to the other projects.

Capiz is composed of 16 towns and one component city.
