BACOLOD CITY – In anticipation of the Lenten Season, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Negros Occidental is ramping up its security measures.
Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio, head of PCG-Northern Negros Occidental, confirmed that the Coast Guard would enter a heightened alert status one week before Holy Week, adhering to the standard protocol of Oplan Semana Santa.
To ensure readiness, Mercurio disclosed that the PCG personnel are currently undergoing refresher training courses.
“This is to enhance their skills and likewise maintain their competence,” he said.
In preparation for the expected surge of beach-goers and travelers during Holy Week, the PCG has also organized its floating assets for optimal use.
“We maintain the highest possible operational level floating assets, ready for deployment,” Mercurio assured.
Additionally, Mercurio noted that regular and random seaborne patrols are scheduled to further solidify maritime security measures in the region.
These patrols are an integral part of the PCG’s strategy to ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy a safe and secure vacation.
“We are doing our best to keep the public safe and secure while on vacation,” Mercurio said.
