PHL hosts 3rd ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference

The Department of Trade and Industry’s Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG), gears up for the 3rd ASEAN Consumer Protection Conference (ACPC) 2022 to be hosted by the Philippines on 28 June 2022.

With the theme, “Building a Fair and Future-Ready Marketplace for Consumers in ASEAN,” the conference continues to address modern-day realities and challenges of consumers within the region and firmly positions the ASEAN in the global market.

As the flagship event of the ASEAN Committee on Consumer Protection (ACCP), the conference showcases the milestones in the areas of consumer protection policy, advocacy, and enforcement, advanced by the ASEAN Member States (AMS) – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand Singapore, and Vietnam.

This year, the ACPC lines up three (3) thematic sessions for the ongoing or completed ACCP deliverables:

-Thematic Session 1: “Laying the Foundation for Inclusive Digital Transformation in ASEAN”

-Thematic Session 2: “Scanning the Horizon – Towards the ‘New Normal’ for B2C Dispute Resolution in ASEAN”

-Thematic Session 3: “Empower Consumers – Strengthening the Consumer Movement in ASEAN”

In addition, the Conference marks other ACCP major breakthroughs with the launch of the ACCP Learning Management System of the Online Interactive and Distance Learning Tools, the ASEAN Regional Complaints Platform, and the ASEAN Sustainable Consumption Toolkit. In this Conference, the DTI will launch and demonstrate the Philippine Online Dispute Resolution System (PODRS) or the Online Consumer Complaints Assistance and Resolution (Consumer CARe) System.

The Philippines shall host the 2022 ACPC following two others held in Hanoi, Vietnam and in Bangkok, Thailand, last December 2014 and December 2015, respectively.
