PHLPost Resumes Issuance of Postal ID Nationwide

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has resumed issuing the Postal ID as a functional card, starting on October 15, 2024, at all designated capturing and registration sites nationwide.

The Postal ID, widely recognized as a government-issued identification card, aims to provide reliable address verification for individuals availing of postal services and other transactions.

Postmaster General Luis Carlos emphasized the importance of the Postal ID in ensuring correct delivery of letters and parcels, noting that similar address verification systems are used by postal administrations worldwide.

“The Postal ID is an address verification system. It ensures the correct delivery of letters and parcels,” Carlos explained.

In addition to postal services, the Postal ID is accepted by both government and private institutions for verifying identity and address. It is also a primary document for passport applications with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), further highlighting its functional significance.

To enhance security, PHLPost has introduced the Postal ID Online Verification System (POVS), a web portal that allows end-users such as private companies and government agencies to verify the authenticity of a Postal ID.

Carlos cautioned the public against falling victim to postal ID scams offering processing services via social media platforms, urging individuals to apply directly at PHLPost offices.

“Do not share personal or financial information, whether it’s via Facebook, e-mail, phone call, or text message. Apply for a Postal ID only at PHLPost offices,” Carlos advised, stressing that all transactions, including capturing personal details such as photographs and fingerprints, are done on-site.

The Postal ID, valid for three years, is an internationally recognized document endorsed by the Universal Postal Union, a specialized agency of the United Nations comprising 192 postal administrations, including PHLPost. It is honored in various transactions with government and financial institutions.

PHLPost also introduced several initiatives to enhance postal services, including offering mobile Postal ID enrollment in barangays, businesses, and events. The postal service is optimizing its delivery systems by establishing Barangay Postal Stations to improve last-mile delivery, especially in remote areas.

Additionally, PHLPost is implementing a new seven-digit alphanumeric ZIP code system to standardize the country’s addressing system, which will be incorporated into the Postal ID in the future. The introduction of the Kartero App, or K-App, will modernize mail operations, allowing real-time tracking of deliveries, including Postal ID cards.
