Police on full alert for CPP anniversary

The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) ordered all its units to be on guard as the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) is poised to celebrate its 53rd founding anniversary.

Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, said the PNP has already declared a full alert status since December 17.

“While the PNP and the Philippine Army maintain their aggressive tactical offensive, the IPPO has heightened its vigilance against possible enemy attack and harassment amid the CPP anniversary,” he said.

Gorero said 11 high risk municipalities were given priority in “red teaming” to ensure heightened security.

These towns are Janiuay, Alimodian, Leon, Miag-ao, Maasin, San Joaquin, Calinog, Lambunao, Igbaras, Tubungan, and Guimbal.

Unit commanders were directed to intensify their police presence by conducting checkpoints and mobility patrols.

“Wala dapat sang mag-relax sa subong na okasyon,” he sued.

Utilization of advocacy groups such as Barangay Intelligence Networks (BINs), barangay based and other force multiplier is encouraged, particularly in responding to far flung barangays infested by insurgents.

Even earlier, the Philippine Army’s 301st Infantry Brigade said their troops all over Panay were told be on guard and maintain an offensive stance.

Just like the previous year, the government did not declare a suspension of offensive military operations (SOMO) or ceasefire against the rebels.

Police and military troops have been earlier warned against possible retaliation following an encounter at Barangay Alimodias, Miag-ao on December 1 that killed at least nine rebels.
