The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) had to make one of the most difficult decisions amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to the effects brought by the pandemic, the PSC had to cut the national team athletes’ and coaches’ allowances to cope with the ongoing crisis.

“This is a hard decision to make, but one that needed to be done so we can continue caring for our athletes longer,” said PSC chairman Butch Ramirez.

Effective today, all national team athletes and coaches will take a 50-percent cut in their salaries in line with the National Sports Development Fund’s cost-cutting measures.

According to PSC, this is the best way for them to still consistently take care of their athletes, coaches, and PSC personnel.

Despite them taking a pay cut, PSC chairman Ramirez arranged a deal that will allow all athletes, coaches, and PSC personnel to avail a 20-percent discount on food, medicine, hotels, and sports equipment purchases.
