CREAMLINE Cool Smashers stole the first game from Petro Gazz Angels in the Premier Volleyball League championship series on July 10, 2019, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

In the first set, the Cool Smashers led 15-21, needing only four points to close the set.

But the dynamic duo of Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson stood out and was too much for Creamline as they led PetroGazz to a comeback win in the opening set.

Determined to defend their title, Creamline went on a rampage and crushed PetroGazz in the second set, 25-16. Team Captain Alyssa Valdez and hitter Kuttika Kaewpin combined to dismantle the Angels’ defensive line.

The third set was the same story as PetroGazz had no answer to Creamline’s attacks, starting the set with an 11-2 advantage, cruising to win the set 25-16.

The last set was more competitive as the Angels’ regrouped to counter Creamline’s barrage and blocked a couple of heavy hits.

But Creamline prevailed in the end to close the match at 25-22.

Kaewpin led the Cool Smashers with 21 points off 18 attacks while Valdez added 16 points.

On Saturday, July 13, 2019, Creamline will look to finish the series and retain their title at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
