MANILA, Philippines – Rappler has signed agreements with Iloilo’s Daily Guardian, SunStar Philippines, and Mindanao’s Davao Today for a unified and collaborative media coverage of the 2025 midterm elections.

“Drawing from each other’s strengths, the media entities agree to work together for a better and more comprehensive coverage of the elections, fusing both national and local stories, along with our respective networks and expertise,” their memorandum of agreement read.

Rappler will be partnering with the media entities for a duration of six months starting February 15.

During this time, the organizations will share content and information with each other and work together to help keep voters in the loop of the important highlights of the national and local electoral races.

According to SunStar Publishing Inc. executive publisher Nestor Ramirez, the partnership puts the community at the center of their election coverage.

“By combining SunStar’s deep local reach with Rappler’s innovative digital journalism, I have no doubt we can provide voters with accurate, real-time information that empowers them to make informed choices,” Ramirez said.

SunStar Philippines, whose newspaper is well-known in Cebu, has a network of newsrooms in Bacolod, Zamboanga, Tacloban, and other parts of the country.

For Daily Guardian editor-in-chief Francis Allan Angelo, the partnership combines deep insights from the regions with national expertise to produce comprehensive and fact-based reporting whenever most needed by the public.

“Together, we’re strengthening our watchdog role — rigorously fact-checking claims, countering misinformation, and offering nuanced analysis of the issues that will shape our region’s future,” Angelo said.

The Daily Guardian, based in Iloilo, has news bureaus in Manila, Antique, Bacolod, Guimaras, Kalibo, and Roxas.

Meanwhile, Davao Today president Arnold Alamon said “Davao Today brings to Rappler’s poll coverage access to the pulse not just of Davao but also the entire Mindanao.”

Alamon added that through this partnership, Davao Today aims to elevate unique electoral stories, issues, and local concerns of Mindanao’s readers to the national discourse.

Davao Today, based in Davao City, provides news and updates concerning business, politics, culture, and human interest stories from the people of Mindanao.

Rappler executive editor Glenda Gloria said that the partnerships attest to the commitment of journalists to pursue election stories that “help voters make informed choices, and the resolve to call out lies and propaganda.”

“We hope to draw from each other’s strengths — so that we can continue telling stories from our diverse communities even beyond the elections,” Gloria added.
