Results of the 17th Statistical Analysis Contest for College Students

The University of the Philippines – Visayas bagged the championship trophy of the 17th Statistical Analysis Contest for College Students held at the RDC Hall, NEDA, on October 15, 2024. The title of their study is “Digital Transformation as Economic Development: The Philippine Context”.

The members of the team are Glenn Ivan D. Macitas, BS Statistics 4; Czar Jerwin C. Pagunsan, BS Statistics 4; and Arpachshad C. Panoy, BS Statistics 4. Dr. Jhoanne Marsh C. Gatpatan served as their coach/adviser.

The 17th Statistical Analysis Contest for College Students was conducted by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI, in coordination with the Philippine Statistics Authority Region 6 (PSA 6) and the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. Region VI Chapter (PSAI6). This is through CHED Memorandum Order No. 302, series of 2024. The Statistical Analysis Contest for College Students is open to all college students enrolled in public and private colleges and universities in the Region. The contest is one of the 35th National Statistics Month (NSM) Celebration activities in the Region. The main purpose of the contest is to create awareness among college students on the importance and relevance of Statistics in national development.

The contest was participated by eighty-seven (87) eligible contestants coming from

twenty-nine (29) higher education institutions in 6 provinces of the Region: Filamer Christian University, Aklan Catholic College, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University – Arevalo, Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology – Dingle, Aklan State University – Banga Campus, West Visayas State University – Main, PHINMA University of Iloilo , STI – West Negros University, Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology – Main (Tiwi), Southland College of Kabankalan City, Aklan State University – Ibajay Campus, Northern Iloilo State University – Concepcion Campus, Passi City College, Capiz State University – Pilar Campus, West Visayas State University – Pototan Campus, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, TUP – Visayas, University of Antique – Sibalom, West Visayas State University – Janiuay Campus, ISAT University, ISUFST – Barotac Nuevo (Poblacion) Campus, University of the Philippines – Visayas, ISUFST – San Enrique Campus, Iloilo Doctors College, University of San Agustin, Guimaras State University – Salvador Campus, Philippine Normal University – Visayas, Central Philippine Adventist College, and Guimaras State University

The members of the Board of Judges are Marlene Y. Alviar, Chief Statistical Specialist, Philippine Statistics Authority Region VI; Ms. Montesa Grino Caoyonan, 4Ps Information Officer

Department of Social Welfare and Development VI; Rashley David A. De Juan, Economic Development Specialist II, National Economic and Development Authority Region VI (NEDA VI); and Dr. Rex C. Casiple, Chief Education Program Specialist, CHED Regional Office VI, Chair, 17th Statistical Analysis Contest for College Students.

The West Visayas State University bagged the second-place trophy or 1st Runner-Up. The title of their study is “Economic Trends of the Digital World in the Philippines”. The members of the team are William Jess Laurence M. Centina, BS Applied Math; Ronie Dwight D. Jalandoni; BS Applied Math; and Judel Ann D. Gallo, AB Political Science. Their coach/adviser is Rosemarie Java. The third place or second runner-up was bagged by ISAT University. The title of their

study is “Philippine Digital Economy: Shares to Gross Value Added and Employment”.  The members of the team are Roque Angelo T. Tacda, BS Mathematics 4; Trixia P. Delos Santos, BS Mathematics 4; and Gian Mart B. Perpas, BS Mathematics 2. Their coach/adviser is Jessa Mae L. Lastimoso.

The winners received their trophies, cash prizes and certificates on October 25, 2024 during the Closing and Awarding Ceremonies of the 35th National Statistics Month Celebration held at the National Museum of the Philippines – Iloilo, Iloilo City.
