BACOLOD CITY — Sen. Imee Marcos praised the officials of Sagay City, Negros Occidental, for the city’s progress over the years.
Marcos was the guest of honor at the opening of the 29th Sinigayan Festival in Sagay City on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
She noted that her last visit to the city was over a decade ago and observed significant advancements in infrastructure and economic activity.
Marcos, along with Negros Occidental Gov. Jose Eugenio Lacson, 2nd District Rep. Thirdy Marañon, Mayor Narwin Javelosa, Board Member Jose Benito Alonso, and Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva, led the ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the Taliambong Food and Entertainment Village, Bugay Sagay Agro-Aqua Festival Village, Dagway Sagay Village, and the Livestock and Poultry Village.
She also met with barangay captains from the 2nd District, which includes Sagay, Cadiz, and Manapla.
Marcos hinted at the possibility of postponing the barangay elections this year, citing the rescheduling of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao elections to October.
She also commended the lively fiesta atmosphere and shared her enthusiasm for buying local products, particularly batwan, a souring fruit unavailable in Manila.
Meanwhile, Lacson said the festival’s theme, “Moving Onward in Harmony,” reflects the resilience and unity that have fueled Sagay City’s growth.
“It is a testament to the collective strength of the Sagaynons and an invitation to honor your rich heritage while embracing change for a brighter and more promising future,” he said.
Lacson emphasized that the festival showcases the city’s vibrant culture and serves as a symbol of unity among Sagaynons.
“It is also a way to give thanks to God for the blessings we have received,” he added.
The governor praised Sagay’s leadership, saying the city is in capable hands under Rep. Marañon, Mayor Javelosa, Vice Mayor Cueva, and other local officials.
“I commend their commitment, along with the cooperation of your barangays, in driving progress and development,” he said.
Lacson also highlighted Sagay City’s consistent recognition as a recipient of the Seal of Good Local Governance, one of the highest distinctions awarded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
“This speaks volumes about your collective excellence in governance,” he said.
