Slain man in Talisay identified, background probed

BACOLOD City – Policemen are checking the background of a man who was found dead on the roadside of Hacienda Mana-ul, Barangay Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental last Friday.

Police Captain Ramil Bustamante, city police chief, identified the victim as Hermar Samorillo, 31, of Barangay Handumanan here, a construction worker.

Bustamante said that Samorillo’s sister positively identified the victim Friday night.

Bustamante said the victim came from their house a night before he was discovered lifeless, based on the statement of his family.

Despite the victim’s identification, police said they could not yet determine the motive of the killing.

“Wala man abi record ang Police Station 10 sa iya since wala na gid na da siya gatinir,” Bustamante said, adding that they are coordinating with other police units to track his record and background.

Samorillo was half-naked and lying on his side when found by a motorist. He was hogtied with a packaging tape, while his face was covered with a piece of cloth.

He also suffered two gunshot wounds in the neck. Police recovered from the scene two fired bullets and a deformed slug of .40 caliber pistol, an indication that the victim was killed in the area.

Despite the manner of the killing, Bustamante earlier said that they could not tell yet if he was a victim of summary execution.
