San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is keeping its promise to help the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic after 274 passengers got stranded at the Manila North Harbor due to the inter-island travel limitations under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).
SMC President, Chief Operating Officer (COO), and one of the top sports patron in the country Ramon S. Ang said that since the country has been accepting OFW’s and catering the needs of the LSI’s , SMC remains fully committed to helping the PH and the government with its bid to end COVID-19.
“That’s why we are again providing free meals everyday until all of them can go home. We hope that with some nourishment and relief, they will stay positive and healthy until they can make the trip home,” said president Ang.
The support and the free meals given to the stranded passengers are under SMC’s Better World Tondo community feeding center and food bank which also helped previous stranded personnel during General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
Passengers stranded in Manila North Harbor are bound for Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Ozamis, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Zamboanga, and Coron.
“It’s unfortunate that they can’t get home right away, especially since many of them are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who can’t wait to see their families. But as we all have to abide by the restrictions of the MECQ for safety reasons, we felt we should just do what we can to help the LSIs,” added Ang.
