Southwest Monsoon to bring scattered rain showers, thunderstorms to WV

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may be felt in Western Visayas due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat which is affecting Luzon and Visayas, the state weather bureau warned on Aug 1, 2022.

In its daily weather forecast issued at 4 p.m. Monday, PAGASA said that Western Visayas alongside Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Zambales, Bataan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Southwest Monsoon.

The weather bureau added that the areas may also experience possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, in a separate thunderstorm advisory, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) said that moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms were affecting Capiz particularly in Bingawan, Tapaz, Dumalag, and Roxas City.

Hence, all are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides.

The RDRRMC 6 also issued a flood advisory warning on Monday enumerating the water courses which will be affected by light to occasionally moderate rains and thunderstorms due to Habagat.

The water systems that are likely to be affected include the following:

*Guimaras – all rivers and its tributaries in

*Capiz – rivers and its tributaries particularly Panay, Mambusao, Panay Malinao, Alingon and Balantian

*Antique – Rivers and its tributaries particularly Sibalom, Ipayo, Cagaranan, Palawan, Cairauan, Dalanas, and Tibiao

*Iloilo – Rivers and its tributaries particularly Pinanantan, Barotac, Akalaygan, Jalaud, Jalano, Jagnong, Jalaur, Lamunan, Jaro-Aganan, Sibalom, and Guimbal

*Negros Occidental – Rivers and its tributaries particularly Malogo, Sicaba, Grande, Himogaan, Danao, Upper Tabanan, Sipalay, and Lower Ilog

*Aklan – rivers and tributaries particularly Ibajay and Jalo

“Residents who are living near the mountain slopes and low-lying areas of the said river systems and the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils are advised to take the necessary precautionary measures,” the flood advisory said. (DG)
