ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The mayor of Maayon, Capiz was alarmed following the upsurge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases which affected an elected official and six other individuals.

Mayor Raymond “Mon-mon” Malapajo advised constituents to be extra cautious and observe health protocols to prevent the spread of the disease after an official whom he refused to name and six other individuals were infected.

Malapajo said the official suffered severe coughing before attending an activity in the province of Iloilo recently.

He said the official consulted two private hospitals here before he was admitted and confined to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH).

But he was referred by the attending physician to Iloilo City after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The six close contacts were designated to different quarantine facilities.

Malapajao said the local government is having difficulties in the contact tracing as contact tracers assigned to Maayon were also under quarantine after they were exposed to Covid positive individuals in Panitan town recently.
