Truck driver killed, seven others injured in road mishaps

BACOLOD City – A truck driver died, while seven others were wounded in separate road accidents here and in Negros Occidental last Monday.

In Bacolod, Ernie Alegia, 46, of Murcia town, died after his parked truck loaded with sand suddenly moved when he disembarked from the vehicle to unload his cargo at Barangay Villamonte.

Police Captain Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 4, said that Alegia hurriedly went in front of the truck in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

However, the truck proceeded until the victim was pushed into a concrete wall.

“Daw na sandwich siya sang truck kag wall, tapos na igo pa siya ka cable,” Cayao said.

The victim died on the spot, according to Cayao.

Meanwhile, seven persons were wounded after a truck fell into a cliff in Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto town.

Based on police investigation, the truck loaded with onions suffered mechanical trouble that caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The truck hit the railings before it fell into the cliff, according to the police.

The truck driver and two others suffered serious injuries, while four others sustained minor injuries.
