A truck driver landed in jail after he allegedly went on indiscriminate gun firing on New Year’s Eve.

The suspect, 32-year-old Marlon dela Cuesta, was arrested five minutes after a resident of Barangay San Agustin, City Proper district, Iloilo City, reported him to the police.

A native of Barangay Tuburan, Maayon, Capiz, dela Cuesta was collared at his rented apartment on Digol Street in San Agustin village.

Corporal Kenny Roger Solatorio, the duty sentinel of Iloilo City Police Station 1 assigned at Barangay San Agustin, arrested dela Cuesta.

Prior to that, a resident reported to Solatorio that a man was seen firing his gun.

As Solatorio responded to the area, he heard a gunshot and saw dela Cuesta holding a handgun which he was about to tuck in his waist.

He was subsequently arrested and yielded a caliber 45 Colt 1911 pistol (serial number 112573). The gun’s magazine was already empty of ammunitions.

Recovered near the area was seven cartridges of caliber .45 ammunition.

Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPS 1 commander and concurrent Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) spokesperson, said that it was the lone incident of indiscriminate gun firing in the city.

It appeared that dela Cuesta was drunk when he went on the gun-firing binge.

He is now detained and will be charged for alarm and scandal and violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
